The prision reform initiative in tihar jail helps the prisoners build up hopes and ambitions even though they are in jail. The tinka tinka foundation helps the prisoners get the basic human right and try to improve the living conditions of the jail, helps to improve the effectiveness of the indian penal system. Some don’t even care about others and spreading hate without a reason.Tinka Tinka is working for inmates like these who want to do better in their life. Vartika Nanda is really a bridge between these two diverse worlds. I hope this new work will some hope to inmates. Ted talks has been a most prestigious platform worldwide where many celebrities share their stories. But, this one was unprecedented. I might not able to express how amazing it was to hear this from you. It changed my perspective towards jails and prisoners. Salute to Dr. Vartika Nanda for her distinguished contributions towards these inmates.
   She is a crusader on prison reforms and the first Indian to have started a continuous project solely on prison reforms. Being the founder she brings a ray of light full of hopes in the lives of inmates. Her distinguished contribution in the field of humans rights and prison reforms brings a change in the perspective of the outside world. She is credited to have curated and created the concept of awards for inmates and prison staff for the first time in India. Two awards exclusively for inmates – Tinka Tinka India Awards and Tinka Tinka Bandini Awards have been instituted by her as part of the effort. These are one of the unique awards and motivates them to
   pursue their passion. Her name has been included in the Limca Book of Records twice for her unique work on prison reform. Tinka Tinka books series elucidate the life of prisoners. These books deeply expresses their each and every emotions. I can surely say this book will turn you into a bibliophile by it’s intense and unique storylines.

Tinka tinka is working really hard to bring motivation, encouragement and confidence among inmates and is helping those inmates who want to change. For this, tinka tinka is also awarding inmates with Tinka tinka India awards and bandini awards to boost the morale in inmates by conducting competitions in painting, poetry etc. This will really encourage the inmates and help them to find and improve their talent. Tinka tinka also found a unique way to describe the feelings of inmates to the society. 5. Over the 20 years of my life I’ve heard of and read about a number of NGO’s, that have inspired
   sympathy in me. Some worked for underprivileged children, some for women rights and some
   others worked for generic issues. I’ve read about some off-beat and unconventional NGO’s
   too, working for a niche cause. However, with no organization before Tinka Tinka has made me
   rethink my views, question my judgements and be ashamed of my prejudices. Tinka foundation
   is the first one to have made me reconsider a lot of my views about inmates, most of which were
   prejudiced, formed only with the basic, stereotypical beliefs that society feeds you. The first
   wave of shock hit me when I learnt that the Tihar jail song was performed solely by inmates. I
   was quick to assume that the performers are probably volunteers of the foundation. And that’s
   when I realised that if I take down my glasses of judgement and start viewing inmates only
   as ‘people’ , and not as inhabitants of a jail, they seem just like me, a normal, everyday person.
   I realised that just like me there are probably alot of people who judge and look down upon
   inmates simply because they have the tag of being inside a ‘jail’, but no one stops to ponder
   even for a minute about who they are, as a person. An artist? A writer? A painter? Who would’ve
   known, if not for Vartika maam’s visionary thinking and efforts?
   The second wave of shock hit me when Mrs. Talwar said she found more acceptance inside of
   a jail, than in the world outside, where apparently the people are better. If the people who aren’t
   in jails are truly “better” as people, how come we judge, criticize, and fail to show basic empathy
   much more than inmates?
   The Ted talk was pure food for thought, it has made me rethink my entire outlook towards life in
   jail and the lives in jail.
   Like Vartika maam said, we need not all visit a jail, but we sure do need to keep in mind there’s
   person who stands, waiting for only 4 hours of sleep in a cell, as we sit here comfortably in our
   homes complaining about the lockdown in the comfort of our homes. We fail to realise there are
   people who have issues exponentially larger than ours, and it is truly noble that Tinka Tinka is
   strives to resolve these issues and bring about reforms.

7. Vartika Nanda is an Indian prison reformer, media educator and a professor at LSR, Delhi University. She founded Tinka Tinka, a movement targeted towards prison reform and has worked over 30 years for which she received the Stree Shakti Puraskar award from the former President of India, Shri PranabMukherjee, the highest civilian honour for women in India on women empowerment. I applaud her commendable work towards the reformation of Jails in India.
   Tinka Tinka’s purpose is to get the people living in prisons out of their pain and hand them over to their dreams. Society has to show a mirror and pray for judicial system to be humane. The society is not able to accept the detainees who have been sentenced to death inside the jail. To which he is clearly entitled.
   Vartika Nanda’s much acclaimed Tinka Tinka book series: Tinka Tinka Dasna, Tinka Tinka Madhya Pradesh, Tinka Tinka Tihar provide detailed accounts of Jails in India. These books are not only a poignant description of prisons life but also calls for a compassionate approach towards prisoners. I’m glad to have found out about the foundation and it’s noble mission of reformation of Jails in India.

8. Compiling memories into a video is a great idea! These memories of prisons need to be flaunted and presented on the internet so that everyone can know what is the life behind bars! Tinka Tinka is a mission that is a ray of hope for inmates in prisons. This mission is trying to build a bridge between prisons and the outside world. We never ever thought about the reality behind the bars but with Tinka Tinka atleast we can see the positive changes behind bars. I remeber when Vartika Ma’am corrected me that not everyone in the prison is a culprit. Many of them are just there due to the complex cirustances and just to save their loved ones from going to jail. Vartika ma’am is an inspiration for many of us! She is creating a change and facing every difficulty with the bright smile on her face. Of course she faced many challanges but the thing that we should learn from her is the way she tackled everything to fulfill her aim. I really want to be like you ma’am! Thank you so much!

   Tinka Tinka is doing a commendable task. It is the only mission that focuses to reform life behind bars. Tinka Tinka is the only foundation that has released its own newsletter that will connect jails across India. Also, Tinka Tinka is the first book written from the life behind bars.
