Corona Jail Diary: Jammu

Inmates lodged in the District Jail, Jammu are providing their support to fight the Corona-19 pandemic with mass production of face masks. Inmates have stitched over 30,000 masks for the frontline warriors, and sold another 15,000 masks on subsidised rates.

A group of 25 inmates were selected by seeing their abilities in making face masks and full-body suits.  For this purpose, the poly-poplin fabric was brought from Ludhiana. As of now, inmates are making three types of masks in the jail factory.

In order to protect inmates from infection, the authorities have already stopped visitations and have started video conferencing and telephone facilities to fulfill their communication needs.

  1. Tinka Tinka has been constantly working towards prison reforms and in since last few years they have really managed to bring a lot of stories to the common people. The reforms done by Tinka Tinka is something very less people know about and even very less people have attempted it. The stories about prison inmates from Tinka Tinka book series Tinka Tinka Tihar, Tinka Tinka Dasna and Tinka Tinka Madhya Pradesh has its own feel. #tinkatinka #vartikananda #jail

  2. It is noteworthy that Tinka Tinka is bringing to us news like these, news that aren’t getting the right amount of media coverage because apparently all today’s media cares about is its TRP gains and popularity. Amongst all this the actual purpose of media i.e., to spread awareness is lost. It can help in the faster implementation of the judicial orders that pertain that overcrowding in prisons is against the human rights of the inmates and ought not be done. But the media refrains from indulging in such matters. Thankfully, movements like Tinka Tinka step in to bring such issues to light. The stories that I have seen on their YouTube channel began with covering jails in Rajasthan, then it covered the Agra Central Jail, jail in Madhya Pradesh, Montage, then it progressed to report about the four jails of Mau, Hamirpur, Meerut and Pilibhit it then covered the jail of Haldwani, Uttarakhand, the jail in Maharashtra, the jail in Chandigarh, Sonbhadra jail, jail in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Telangana, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and the latest news was centred around jails in Patiala, Punjab and now this on jails in J&K. Such efforts are highly appreciable. #vartikananda #tinkatinka #jail #prison

  3. Covid-2019 has affected us all in various ways and it’s not going away soon. Taking care of ourselves, putting on masks, and keeping social distancing are the key factors you can follow. In such horrible times, these inmates are helping us with 3 types of masks is a creatable work. I hope people see their appreciable work and don’t judge inmates. Introducing a video call system is a new step to being digitalized. And Vartika Nanda and Tinka Tinka is doing great work as being a bridge between these two worlds and giving us this information.

  5. The detainees of Jammu are also helping out with this situation by preparing masks for the frontline warriors of our nation. They have sold around 15,000 masks to the nearby locations. A group of 25 inmates were selected by their abilities and dedication towards stitching masks and full body suit. They prepare 3 different masks.
This transformation among inmates are commendable. Tinka is working very quietly in bringing prisons together.
