Inmates lodged in Central Jail, Amritsar are contributing their bit by stitching masks for those in need. Among those who are spending hours on the sewing machine include two convicts. Both learnt the art of stitching masks from other inmates in a short duration. Both of them are stitching 80 to 100 masks daily.
60 inmates, including 15 women, are stitching masks to meet the shortage. The government has already included masks and hand sanitisers in the list of essential commodities following the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Apart from providing masks to all jail inmates, the jail has produced over 10,,000 masks till now. The double–layered face masks are made of khadi cloth and are washable. Jail is receiving orders from various nursing colleges and government hospitals.
Those engaged in making masks are paid ₹60 per day. 70 stitching machines have been arranged for the purpose.
The jail has the capacity to accommodate 2,200 inmates but it has around 3,000 inmates at the moment.

When someone goes into jail people just starting judging and give them label they are never going to change but it’s not the case with most of it. We need to understand their stories, their reasons behind it, and try to change. Tinka Tinka & Vartika Nanda is constantly working to reform people for their betterment and trying to collect stories and experience to help others so past won’t be repeated. These inmates are working for the betterment of the country. Their hard work is contributing to this pandemic, people can change it has been proven as inmates from various jails are sewing masks for the people. As now in this Amritsar jail inmates are learning the art of sewing and helping the mankind.

Amritsar inmates are stitching masks. There are around 3,000 inmates with the capacity of 22,000 inmates. Among these inmates two of them have learnt the art of stitching being imprisoned in very short duration and preparing 80-100 masks everyday. 60 inmates including 15 women ate stitching masks to meet the shortage. As the government have made the maks and sanitizer a essential component in daily life during outbreak. These inmates are receiving orders from various Nursing Colleges and even from the Government Hospitals. They have fulfilled the need of around 10,000 masks till now. Those working in masks preparation are getting paid 60 rupees per day.
