Tinka Jail News Channel makes a record
An exclusive You Tube channel dedicated to the initiative of prisons during COVID–19
About Tinka Tinka Jail News
For 51 days now, a story of one to three–minute duration every day, brought out the world of prisons and their contribution during COVID–19. This has made Tinka Tinka Jail News the first YouTube News Channel of its kind that has dedicated itself to deliver inspirational news from prisons across India. Tinka Tinka Jail news narrates the story of one jail or a cause at a time. This initiative was conceived in the month of March with the start of the lockdown, which later became a practice in May. These stories are made in public interest, bringing a new form of constructive journalism.
Tinka Tinka Jail is a part of Tinka Tinka movement that aims to bridge the gap between prisons and society and also to create a platform to highlight the contribution of prisons especially during the COVID–19 outbreak
The objective of this initiative is three–fold– to reveal the historical significance of the concerned prison, to document the contribution made by inmates for the outside world and present a facet of prisons that goes unnoticed. By narrating one story at a time, this channel devoted itself to bring out the lesser known face of prisons in India, especially during COVID–19. Interestingly, the channel has picked up stories from all the important types of prisons– central, district, sub–jails and the women jails. The channel has been able to weave the stories of inmates engaged in small–scale efforts of manufacturing masks, sanitizers, PPE kits and other means to help the world. The names of the concerned Superintendent and other senior personnel are mentioned in these stories to give them their due credit.
The channel has featured a vast rage of stories. Inmates lodged in District Jail, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh have made maximum number of masks among all the jails of Uttar Pradesh, stitching more than 5000 masks a day. One of the inmates, Anupam Trivedi, lodged in District Jail, Pilibhit has made several paintings on Corona and has now created an art gallery to spread awareness about the virus. Inmates in a Rajasthan prison took an initiative to donate a portion of their food to the needy people, outside. 40 men and 13 women inmates in Central Jail, Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh are involved in making 1500 masks every day. This practice is being carried in almost 52 jails of Madhya Pradesh. Inmates of Model Jail, Chandigarh donated Rs. 1,11,000/- to the Corona Relief Fund. All these stories of change, support and transformation have emerged strongly in the channel that are being done by Tinka Tinka Foundation for the last 51 days. Few stories have also revolved around special days like the Yoga Day and the World Music Day, with Sundays dedicated to a human interest story, apart from creative expressions of inmates over the years, through the Tinka Tinka series. These were being shared silently among a small group of prison officers and inmates and were kept away from public glare. At the completion of 51 days, bouquets of these stories have come as a gesture of tribute to inmates and the jail staff.
These stories are edited by Riya Verma and the montage is done by Nitin Chowdhary. The stories will now be broadcast once a week.

I would like to thank for truly exceptional work that exceeded expectations in prison world. Ma’am you have intrinsically motivating us by doing excellent work and producing something that impresses whole nation.
Tinka Tinka foundation have changed the lifes of prisoners as well as the perspectives of society. During the outbreak of COVID-19 when everybody is isolated from the outside world. We start feeling frantic and disguised. This situation made us think about the depression those inmates have faced being imprisoned without families and friends. Their helplessness is something we faced being stuff in a certain place during this lockdown. By helping these inmates Tinka Tinka movement is doing great work.
We appreciate your critical thinking around this prison reform initiative. Ma’am you have been an inspiration for the youth generation.

Really great and inspiring work Vartika mam!Hope your work reaches to public and change their view from now.
It is correctly that sometimes we find inspiration in the places or from people that we were least expecting it from. Today when almost every news channel has been delivering only negative news which has affected the mental health of thousands during the lockdown, this constructive and positive journalism effort is a refreshing change. #tinkatinka #vartikananda #prisonreforms #jailreforms

I recommend everyone to check out Tinka Tinka Jail News on their youtube channel (tinkatinkaprisonreforms). In this series, they are bringing attention to many novel issues like prisons in the time of COVID- 19, the mental health of inmates, prison hospitals, education in prisons, etc. I hope media houses take a page out of their book and cover the issues of prisons and prison reforms. Making these issues mainstream will help de-stigmatize inmates and they will have a better chance of assimilation into society. For those who want to further know about the movement of prison reforms in India, I would recommend them to check out the three books written by Dr. Vartika Nanda, Tinka Tinka Dasna, Tinka Tinka Madhya Pradesh, Tinka Tinka Tihar.
Through Tinka Tinka Jail News, the organization is bringing attention to many novel issues like prisons in the time of corona, the mental health of inmates, prison hospitals, education in prisons, etc. I recommend everyone to check out Tinka Tinka Jail News on their youtube channel (tinkatinkaprisonreforms). We as a society should recognize the work done by prisoners during COVID 19 epidemic. They have helped the nation by manufacturing masks, PPE kits, hand sanitizers, etc. They have also made some great sacrifices, some were unable to go on parole while others were unable to have visitors. Also the jail administration and staff need to be appreciated for guiding the inmates in these challenging times and also took great steps to prevent the spread of the virus in jail.#news #jail #tinkatinka #prisonreforms
