Corona Jail Diary: Karnataka

Established in 1923, Hindalaga Central Prison in Karnataka is giving its bit in making masks for the outside world. Inmates lodged in this prison are making reusable masks at the rate of ₹6 per mask. They are making nearly 2,000 masks per day under the wageearning scheme. Prison authorities have opened a stall that sells masks near the entrance of the jail.

Hindalga is one of the largest correctional centres in the State and  around 800 undertrial inmates. This is the only prison in the state with the facility to carry out capital punishment. It is also considered as one of the highsecurity prisons in the state.

  1. Tinka Tinka & Vartika Nanda has been constantly working towards prison reforms and for the last few years, they have really managed to bring a lot of stories to the common people. The reforms done by Tinka Tinka are something very less people know about and even very few people have attempted it. Do check out this playlist to know about the journey of Tinka Tinka. The playlist contains 6 episodic series on the journey of Tinka Tinka. #tinkatinka #vartikananda #jail

  2. The stories that I have seen on the channel began with covering jails in Rajasthan, then it covered the Agra Central Jail, jail in Madhya Pradesh, Montage, then it progressed to report about the four jails of Mau, Hamirpur, Meerut and Pilibhit it then covered the jail of Haldwani, Uttarakhand, the jail in Maharashtra, the jail in Chandigarh, Sonbhadra jail, jail in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, Telangana, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and the latest news was centred around jails in Patiala, Punjab, jails in J&K, jails in Odisha, the Amritsar jail and now this video on the jails in Karnataka. Strangely, all these prisons that are engaged in making masks and sanitisers, for themselves, for the government and private authorities, haven’t been appreciated enough by most of the media houses. The role of media is to spread awareness among the general public. They ought to report news that may help the society progress, they ought to appreciate worthy enough individuals irrespective of where they come from. They can facilitate in bridging the gap between the society and prisons. But alas! All they seem to care about is their TRP gains. Contrary to the general scenario, I’m glad someone is talking about this. #vartikananda #tinkatinka

Hindalga Central Prison Belgaum Karnataka inmates are preparing masks at a cost of six rupees each. They are preparing 2,000 masks per day. They are passionate towards their responsibility towards society.
