Corona Jail Diary:

  1. His thought has a deep meaning which he is crafting in the poem. As still water is transparent can see what’s inside similarly, Bahadur Shah Jafar’s poems are clean and reflecting his thoughts. He as created such an art in the prison which some of us can’t even imagine in dreams. Tinka Tinka is finding these gems and building the bridge between these two worlds stronger than ever. In this situation when we all are trapped inside our houses like a jail thinking about inmates who are trapped inside the real jail without their families must have been going through depression. But still, they found their way and wrote such poetry that can touch someone’s soul.

  2. ‘King of Delhi’- Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor.
I would like to thank Dr. Vartika Nanda for reminding all of us by resurrecting the legacy of a man revered as a Sufi saint and one of the finest poets in the Urdu language. When he was captured by the British, ever the poet King belted out his shayari to a British officer. But even during his last days, Zafar’s poetry did not leave him. He gave us the message of “Never give up”. We are thankfull to Dr. Vartika Nanda for resurrecting him.

  3. Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last emperor of the Mughal Empire in India and also a powerful poet of Urdu language. While in captivity of the British in Rangoon, he wrote a lot of ghazals. The British did not even provide him with paper-pen as a prisoner. He started writing ghazals on the walls of the prison with coal and burnt sticks. Today, there are no jafars, but jails are almost the same where captives write and fabricate. Tinka Tinka supports such artists.

  4. This is a very informative post on Bahadur Shah Zafar’s last days in prison. The way a person carries themselves in difficult circumstances especially as in the case of Zafar of being wrongfully imprisoned tells a lot of a person. Zafar carried himself with grace and poise. He continued to follow his passion for writing poetry even when the prison administration did not provide him something as small as paper and pen. But Zafar persevered and continued to follow his passion for writing by using ingenious techniques. This incident still holds true in today’s time when a lot of activists and scholars are imprisoned on flimsy grounds and are not giving resources like medicine, health checkups, books, and even straws. #tinkatinka #prisonreform #history
