अंग्रेजी शासन के दौरान बुन्देलखण्ड क्षेत्र के बुंदेला राजाओं के दमन के लिए अंग्रेजों ने 1815 में यमुना एवं बेतवा नदियों के मध्य स्थित हमीरपुर में एक छोटी जेल की स्थापना की जिसका मुख्यालय पहले बांदा जिले से संचालित था। बाद में सन 1937 में हमीरपुर को जिले का दर्जा मिलने पर यही जेल हमीरपुर जिला कारागार के रूप में स्थापित हो गयी। इस जेल की बंदी क्षमता 400 है लेकिन फिलहाल यहां पर 630 बंदी हैं जिनमें 29 महिलाएं भी शामिल हैं। इस जेल में 15 बच्चे भी हैं।
21 मार्च से यहां पर पूरी तेजी से फेसमास्क बनाए जा रहे हैं। यहां अब तक 3000 से ज्यादा मास्क बनाए जा चुके हैं। हर रोज 3 बंदी मिलकर करीब 80 मास्क तैयार कर लेते हैं। इस समय यहां के जेलर है – श्री प्रमोद कुमार त्रिपाठी ।

तिनका तिनका की ओर से रोज़ बा रोज़ आ रही जेल कि ऐसी सकारात्मक खबरों से यह तो पता चलता है कि सारी जेलों के बंदियों ने अब एक जुट होकर साहस के साथ कोरोना के इस संकट से लड़ने का इरादा किया है। जेल के बंदियों द्वारा उठाए जा रहे ऐसे अनूठे कदम जेल में रहने वाले बंदियों कि एक समानता दृष्टि को दर्शाते हैं। जहां आज बाहरी दुनिया के लोग अपने काम काज को छोड़कर घर में बैठे हैं वहीं जेल के बंदी बाहरी दुनिया को इस संकट से बचाने के लिए दिन – रात साहस के साथ अपने काम को अंजाम दे रहे हैं। ऐसा लगता है कि एक – एक करके सारे जेल के बंदियों ने बाहरी दुनिया के लोगो को कोरोना के ऐसे बड़े संकट से बाहर निकालने का परण लिए हैं। जो कि सराहनीय परण हैं।

Hamirpur is Famous for its High literacy rate, Educational Institutions and Traditional Festival Of Hamir Utsav.
District Jail Hamirpur have 600+ inmates with a capacity of 400 inmates.
During this lockdown period due to Corona detainees have prepared more than 3000 face masks. Around 80 masks are prepared on daily basis by 3 inmates.
This is the result of Dr. Vartika Nanda’s tremendous work and determination towards inmates welfare. Your efforts have changed the perspective of society towards them. This initiative address things right off the bat and become the bridge between the prison world and us.
